HOT BUTTERED RUM

 In Antiquities & Obscurities

This December, Home Bar Network is partnering with The Dairy Alliance to bring you a Holiday Cocktail Series focused on all those rich, creamy, decadent recipes we all know and love. Scroll down to watch EPISODE 1 where we kick it off with an old school classic, the Hot Buttered Rum!

1 tbsp Hot Buttered Rum Batter*
1 oz Old Monk 7 yr aged rum
1 oz The Real McCoy 5 yr aged rum
Top with piping hot Earl Grey Tea

COCKTAIL DIRECTIONS: Add one tbsp batter to a coffee mug. Add rum. Top with freshly brewed, piping hot Earl Grey tea. Garnish with whipped cream.

We researched the best hot buttered rum batter and decided the following recipe from Punch Drink was the way to go!

*Hot Buttered Rum Batter

  • 2 sticks butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup vanilla ice cream
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon, ground
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons nutmeg, ground
  • 1 tablespoons clove, ground
  • 1 tablespoons allspice, ground
  • 1 tablespoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

BATTER DIRECTIONS: Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl and blend with electric mixer. Refrigerate batter until ready to use. We roll ours and wrap in cellophane. Store in fridge and use within a week. Will keep in freezer for much longer.

Big Shoutout to Chef Andy Long at South Main Kitchen in Alpharetta, GA for helping us perfect the recipe!
