Cranberry Old Fashioned
If you’re looking for a wintry twist on the Old Fashioned, this one will do the trick. A simple syrup recipe and a little pyrotechnics transform everyone’s favorite classic cocktail into a warming fireside treat.
CRANBERRY OLD FASHIONED
2 oz Bourbon or Rye
.5 oz Cranberry Sauce Syrup**
4 dashes Orange Bitters
Orange Peel
Rosemary Sprig
**Cranberry Sauce Syrup:
Place 1 cup of cranberry sauce, 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar in a medium saucepan, and simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and cook for about 5-10 minutes. Let cool, then strain through a fine-mesh sieve. Depending on the thickness of your original cranberry sauce, you may want to add a bit more water. If your cranberry sauce is already very sweet, you may not need a whole cup of sugar.
DIRECTIONS: Muddle one orange peel with bitters and syrup in a mixing glass. Add ice and whiskey and stir until well-chilled. Strain over one large cube in a rocks glass. Using a kitchen torch or lighter, light one sprig of Rosemary on fire, blow out and place in glass.
PRO TIP: Skewer a few whole cranberries and place in the glass to ramp up your garnish game!
From our kitchen to yours, cheers! 🥃
