MARCH FEATURE: Liquid Craic
“What can we do with a drunken sailor, what can we do with a drunken sailor? What can we do with a drunken sailor, early in the mornin’?” Pour him a Liquid Craic! This version of an Espresso Martini swaps Irish Whiskey for Vodka and adds a hit of Hoodoo Chicory Liqueur and Dark Muscovado (a heavy molasses sugar from Mauritius) syrup for some delicious complexity. The next time you’re feeling a pint with the lads but you need a pick-me-up, look no further than a Liquid Craic! Sláinte!
PS – Craic is akin to a damn good time in Irish slang!
2 oz Irish Whiskey
.50 oz Hoodoo Chicory Liqueur
.75 oz Dark Muscovado Syrup*
2 – 3 oz Espresso or Dark Roast Coffee (We recommend dark roast from Cue Brew Roasters in Roswell, GA)
Top with thin layer of whipping cream
DIRECTIONS: Shake all ingredients except whipping cream with ice until well-chilled. Double-strain into a chilled coupe and add a layer of frothed whipping cream to the top. Grate fresh cinnamon over top.
*Dark Muscovado Syrup: boil 1 cup water and add 1 cup Dark Muscovado sugar. Stir until dissolved and bottle. Will last up to 3 weeks refrigerated.
