Trader Vic's Mai Tai

Ahhh the glorious Mai Tai! Made famous in 1944 by Trader Vic’s, we stay true to the original recipe...

Home Bar Network presents one of THE MOST incorrectly made cocktails of ALL TIME — the Mai Tai! Made famous in 1944 by Trader Vic’s, we stay true to the original recipe and specs from one of our favorite books of all time, Smuggler’s Cove.

Odds are, if you’ve ever attempted to order a Mai Tai at a bar, you’ve been served some mix of cheap rum and several random juices. But guess what, THAT AIN’T IT! Time to celebrate this classic in all of its true mouthwatering glory.

TRADER VIC'S MAI TAI

2 oz Blended Aged Jamaican Rum (We used Appleton Estate)

1/2 oz Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao (Maison Ferrand)

1/2 oz Orgeat (We used Barsmith brand)

1/2 oz Rich Turbinado Syrup*

3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice

DIRECTIONS: Combine all ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake until well chilled. Strain over fresh ice (bonus point if you have pebble ice or grab a lewis bag to crush your own ice the old fashioned way!). Garnish with lime and fresh mint to resemble an island and palm trees.

See video for full instruction.

*Rich Turbinado Syrup - Combine 1 cup turbinado sugar with 1/2 cup filtered water. Heat on medium until sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, let cool and bottle. Will last in fridge 2-3 weeks.

YOU GOTTA MAKE THIS ONE BEFORE SUMMER IS OVER! Or anytime really, because they're ain't no rules to this game! Cheers!
